Merry Christmas!

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season!

It's been just over a year since I've started blogging; and I've enjoyed it very much.  It has been my sort-of retreat away from the hecticness that life can be for all of us these days.  I hope my readers were able to take away some peace by coming here.  I want to thank all my followers and readers for stopping by and seeing what I have to post.  I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and I hope that everyone has a Joyous Holiday Season.

Fall Harvest

Is it too late to do a fall harvest picture?  Obviously, we did not harvest anything you see here; it's all from the grocery store with the exception of the pumpkins, which are from the farmer's market.  We recently got a juicer and so my parents went out and got a lot of fruits (more than they usually do). I looks like a fall harvest to me.

Meaningful & Unique Gifts

Ideally, we'd all like to give gifts that the recipient will keep and remember for a very long time.  I think these ideas below will do the trick.

1. Photo book from Shutterfly: I've read a few reviews on online about photo book companies.  And it seems Shutterfly is the best.  But, of course, you'll want to do your own research before deciding on which website is best.
A few other photo book makers are Viovio, SnapFish, and MixBook

2. Metal Prints: PosterJack makes metal prints and since most people don't have a metal print your gift will definitely stand out amongst the rest.  They also make regular posters, acrylic prints, canvas prints among a few other options.

3. SpoonFlower is a company which will print your photos on fabric.  This can be a great gift idea for those who get crafty with fabric.

Happy gift-giving!

Poinsettia

Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima).

The story behind this is quite funny...my Dad came home with this plant one day last week.  Someone at his work had asked him several weeks prior if he'd like to buy a Poinsettia and the proceeds would go towards charity.  He had no idea that this plant was called Poinsettia (he'd of course seen them before, but never thought to find out the name...lol...) Anyway, all he heard was something for charity...so he gave the person some money.   And fast forward a couple weeks, he sees this on his desk...and he was wondering how come it was there.  He hadn't realized that he had paid for it.  Anyway, isn't if funny how guys never care about flowers as much as women do....

So Cute!

Take a look at this little guy...he was just sitting on the backyard fence, nibbling away at something he found...for several minutes...long enough for me to do a photo shoot.

Remind me again why we don't have pet squirrels?

Organizing Winter Gear

The cold weather is coming. I needed a place to stash the hats, scarves, gloves etc. that I use daily in the winter.  But, I did not want to buy anything new, so, I looked around the house and found this metal bucket.

It seems to work well, but, I don't like the way it looks, especially, not in the front of the home.  So, I wrapped it with some yarn and cloth:

There you have it!  I hope, you too, can re-purpose something you've got in your home.

Update:
I've done a couple more buckets for the other members of my family.  Of course, the main reason I picked the buckets as an organizing tool was because we had enough for everyone in the family.  And I added tags to help everyone identify their own bucket.

This set-up has worked extremely well this winter.  It has aided in keeping all the gear tidy and it makes everyone accountable for their own "mess."

A Few Good Movies...

I'm not a big movie watcher...but when I do watch something, I like to watch something with a good story or something that makes me feel relaxed.  I watched these movies recently and enjoyed them.  I encourage you to check them out as well, if you hadn't already seen them.

The Help:

The Secret Garden (1993):
I re-watched this classic.

Miss. Potter:

November 27, 2011:

I thought I should just compile my favorite movies here as I remember them. Today, I'm adding Little Women and The Holiday to this list:

Little Women (1994):

Homesick

Autumn Hydrangea

I had this flower on my dresser for several weeks; it lasted so long and all I did was change the water occasionally.  Now, it has dried but still looks the same except it feels "crunchy" to the touch.  Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers.

I found this vintage picture in my new-found favorite vintage book: P. J Redoute's Choix des Plus Belles Fleurs et des Plus Beaux Fruits via Missouri Botanical Garden.
